So this is how our dates went-

So anyway. Sunday my head was filled with all kinds of thoughts about the last two nights with him and felt all warm and fuzzy. I kinda hate it but like it at the same time. Like it because it's new and shiny and exciting, hate it because I am trying to not get all caught up in this boy thing and forget about my focus on myself and school. I truely did not go looking for this, I dont need distractions. but at this point I'm kinda enjoying it. Just going with the flow. taking it slow. Definitely want to see him again. I know he's a hopeless romantic and I cant wait to be be romanced. He also cooks.. he takes his cooking very serious and cooking for someone is very personal for him. So when he decides to cook for me, I know I'm in.

I want home cooked dinner and a movie and cuddling... awwww DAMN warm fuzzies attacking my brain.

After much thought and a day of input from various sources telling me to run away as fast as possible, this was my response to bridezilla:

"$600 would cover photography for just the wedding ceremony, and posed family and wedding party portraits. No morning prep-work leading up to the ceremony and no reception shooting. This would also not include any photo retouches or proof books. Anything above and beyond the actual shooting of the ceremony will be charged a-la-carte (Prints, retouching, books, videos, slideshows, etc). I would still require a 50% deposit to hold the date, non-refundable within 30 days of the ceremony."

That was the exact email I sent to her. I also want to have her pay for my equipment rental and am only going to give her a certain amount of time to make an order before the prices go up. I figure If I do the wedding for cheap and make her happy now, I can charge her a little bit more in prints and services to make up for it.

50% deposit due at signing of contract, the other 50% due upon arrival to the ceremony site.

I appreciate your time and effort on figuring this out. But that is just too much. I was thinking since you are just starting out, and this would be your second wedding, using us as kind of like practice, to get more experience, and also in your portfolio that it would be more like half that price. I have looked at other photographers and the cheapest I have found was about 800. I don't know if you would be willing to work something else out?

So i replied with "Yeah $800 sounds good, I'll do the shoot and we can order prints and books and stuff you are interested in later. I was thinking maybe a package might make things easier, thats why the prices were so high. I'm sorry!"

She replied:
Well hey how about this..what can you do for me for 600? What would that include? I'm really just looking for something simple. And like you said if I want more stuff I can order later. Let me know so that I can discuss with Mercy. Thanks so much.

ok. First you say $800? then I agree and then you lower it by $200? For $600 I will shoot your ceremony with my point and shoot and cut your head off of every pic.

seriously though... I gave her a HECK of a deal for the amount of hours she wants me on site for (14 hours!), and the extra stuff she wants. Not to mention the amount of time that goes into post processing pictures, and all the fees that are included for equipment rental and printing and whatnot.

I think I am going to walk away. I got a TON of input on my facebook and every single person said walk away. Several of those include wedding photographers I know as well.

If she only wants to pay $600, I might shoot JUST the ceremony.

So I was hired to shoot my second wedding in April 2010... and I actually had to sit down and think of prices to charge, and came up with this:


$1000 12 hour shoot, 1 Photographer. Retouching, Proof Book and 150 free 4"x6" color prints included in price.
$1300 14 hour shoot, 1 Photographer and 1 Assistant. Retouching, Proof book, discount on wedding album, and 250 free 4"x6" color prints included in price.

Additional prints, b&w, colorization, and personalization priced separately.

I am also asking for a 50% deposit to hold the date, not refundable within 30 days of the ceremony.

Does this sound fair and reasonably priced for a 2nd time "official" wedding photographer? What are some things you would change/add/remove? Suggestions and input please. I already sent her the email, but curious as to what others think.

I also know that the hours I will be shooting onsite are extremely generous. Most people do 5 to 8 hours on site for the basic package. But Im not so worried about that right now, I need the experience. :)
